The New York Post asked me to write about the ad hoc Covid mandates that still plague New York City. My article is out today.
“It’s been nearly 11 months since the end of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “Key To NYC” vaccine mandate and public-school masking requirements. I just don’t understand it! It makes absolutely no sense. I am so glad I don’t live in NY. I cringe when I walk in my school hallways and seem some students still wearing masks by their own choice. The anxiety they must still feel is heart breaking. I wish our health leaders need to step up and put an end to it.
Not just in New York. I went to a family Christmas pageant service at the Portland Oregon Unitarian church I used to be very active in. All the children in the pageant were wearing masks so I couldn’t recognize any of my former Sunday School students or see any smiles. The minister preached that “ we show we care by wearing masks”, telling me that I don’t care by not wearing a mask? Everyone was under 45 in the audience, in a very low risk community and 95% were wearing masks. It was virtue theater pushed by social pressure at its finest. I felt I was sitting in a room full of cultists. Still grieving at the loss of my beloved church. If not now, when will it be okay to not wear masks?
