Thank you for speaking up! Pens seems like a small thing but any policy change is a step forward.

I just questioned our pediatrician about this Monday. He’s in the Hopkins system and it’s still their policy to require masks. He wasn’t sure if they had plans to remove it soon but told me he heard Children’s Hospital in DC was doing it soon. Fingers crossed Hopkins sees Mayo and Children’s example and follows it.

I also asked him about the clean pen dirty pen the front office is still doing. He didn’t know they were still doing that and said he would ask; he said it was not Hopkins policy.

Silence is concurrence so I try not to be.

So quick to implement all of these dumb, evidence-free policies and so slow to remove them. Sluggish even.

Every dr office I’ve been to, mask required or not, and even the vet, is still doing clean pen dirty pen. What are the chances they are doing more than wiping them in batches with a bleach wipe, if even that. I use the dirty pens and put them back in the dirty pen cup.

My gyn is still asking about *domestic* travel. When pressed they couldn’t tell me why. Just stammered through “there may be different rules....”. Having to go through all that raises my blood pressure every time.

I wouldn’t even know who my PCP is if I saw her in the hall unmasked since I started with her post Covid when my old PCP retired. Had such a great unmasked relationship with him, barely know my new one.

I just found out that some of the residents who started in the fall of 2020 were afraid of me because they could not see my facial expressions for the first 6 months. We have great relationships now.

If anyone hasn't noticed, Eliza's speaking from Virginia, Charlottesville to be specific. The state universities have some of the tightest covid rules.

You are correct, community hospitals around us dropped their mandates first. However, at this point the other 2 children's hospitals affiliated with state medical schools have also gone mask optional. On a positive note, my friend who works in one of our outpatient clinics said her first day mask-optional was, "So great!!!" Fingers crossed that the inpatient units will be freed soon.
