75% of American Voters Oppose Gender Surgery for Minors

So why is California allowing it?

According to a June 2023 Harvard-Harris poll, over 75% of American voters across party lines oppose gender transitioning surgeries and hormones for minors, and a May 2023 Gallup poll found 69% think athletes should only be allowed to play on sports teams which match their birth gender.

It’s not political, so why are states making it out to be?

Grassroots organizations and Republican lawmakers in at least 24 states pushed laws that restrict “gender-affirming” care and/or prevent biological boys or men from competing against girls and women. Most of these have taken effect, though nearly all are contested.

On the other hand, policymakers in Democrat-controlled federal and state governments have enacted laws that enable minors to receive puberty blockers, cross gender hormones and irreversible surgeries - commonly referred to as “gender-affirming care.” Some laws even allow the prescription of puberty blockers and sexualizing hormones without parental consent.

California has a Democrat supermajority state government that supports pediatric gender transition, schools keeping secrets from parents, and allowing biological boys and men in girls’ and women’s sports and spaces, even though polling of California voters shows that most do not support these policies.

Fortunately California has a ballot initiative process where voters can override partisan bureaucrats and compromised elected officials. A grassroots effort by California parents aims to circumvent these harmful policies with a citizen-initiated ballot proposition that requires 550,000 petition signatures to get on the ballot.

of Protect Kids California has spearheaded the Protect Kids of California Act of 2024.

The proposed legislation has three parts.

1. Require schools to notify parents if a child is suffering from gender dysphoria. Currently in California schools do not have to notify parents if their children are experiencing gender dysphoria, and are in fact required to keep it secret from parents/guardians.

2. Protect girls’ and womens’ sports and spaces: It will prevent biological boys from using girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms and from direct competition in sports against girls.

3. Prohibit sterilizing medical procedures and associated medical interventions for children, who are not able to provide informed consent.

Multiple polls (Rasmussen, Harvard-Harris, Gallup ) showed that parents, including those in California, agree with every aspect of the Protect Kids of California Act.

Although California Attorney General Rob Bonta used his power to rename the act to the Restrict Rights of Transgender Youth Act to drive votes against the proposed bill, Protect Kids California is determined to meet the May 28th deadline for collecting the required ballot signatures.

The organizers estimate that they’ve received over 200,000 signatures but will not have an accurate count until close to the final deadline.

There is a popular saying, “As goes California, so goes the nation.” If a solid blue state like California can put a stop to these policies and practices which harm children, the rest of the country - especially other blue and purple states - will likely follow.
