On May 7th, Dana went to the New York State capital, to join our friends John Gilmore, Michael Kane, and Children’s Health Defense to protest several bad bills, including SB S8352, which would have allowed any medical procedure to be performed on a minor of any age —without parental knowledge of consent.
Just three business days after our coalition appeared in Albany, the bill was "stricken" which means the bill's sponsor Sen. Rachel May (D-Syracuse) pulled it.
This shows that when a politically broad spectrum of people from across the state come together, we get results at the capital.
According to John Gilmore, “Without a Senate bill, this can't become law, and it is likely that the Assembly will take no action during the three weeks that remain in this session (wraps up on June 6.) I think this also means that the other bill that attacks parental consent, A276a/S762b, is probably dead in the water, too.”
We are so glad to be part of this growing movement of parents, and other fierce advocates fighting for our children. We encourage you all to read Dana’s May 7th speech in Albany, where she asks an intriguing question “Are elected officials contributing to the erosion of childhood?” Read her speech HERE.
Yesterday, Natalya joined Independent Women’s Forum’s Ginny Gentles at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington D.C. for a conversation/celebration honoring Corey DeAngelis’s new book THE PARENT REVOLUTION.
Corey DeAngelis, a school choice advocate who represents the American Federation of Children, has single handedly taken on the shadowy teachers unions & forced them into the light. Corey has been a great friend to Restore Childhood and we are looking forward to reading his book.
During the discussion, Ginny asked both Corey and Natalya- What can parents do now to help their kids?
Natalya’s response, which she posted on X today, really resonated with attendees:
“I implore parents to TAKE BACK THEIR CHILDREN.
Make home the sanctuary it is.
Break down the walls that government schools are trying to build between parents and kids.
Talk to kids about (nearly) everything.
Inoculate them with accurate information so that when ideologies are presented as facts, they know better.
Bring back family dinners.
Tell your kids that no discussions are off the table.
Ask them about their school days and meet their friends. This is basic common sense that any grandparent can share.
And on that note-- bring back intergenerational relationships.
Reunite kids with grandparents and extended families.
Share your own personal struggles with kids, too.
Childhood and young adulthood are great periods of change and growth.
Normalize it.
Do not allow outsiders to pathologize normal childhood development. It takes a village. Let's make sure our children have one!”
And we’ll leave you with a selfie Natalya and our good friend, former Fairfax County Public Schools Board candidate Debra Tisler (who is also in our upcoming documentary “15 Days…” took outside the Capitol Hill Club.”
Thank you so much to RESTORE CHILDHOOD for your support for our children and medical freedom!
