NYC Kids' Soccer Fields to be Transformed into a Tent City for Migrants
Mayor Adams suggests he may take away city kids' sports... AGAIN!
Last week, we heard that NYC Mayor Eric Adams was planning to throw another roadblock in city kids’ way. After welcoming thousands more migrants than the city has space for, and even housing them in public school gyms this spring, the Mayor is eyeing Randall’s Island Ballfields to turn them into a tent city.
According to the New York Post, Randall’s Island Park Alliance co-Chairs Jonathan May and Nancy Neff sent a blistering letter to Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi on Monday.
“Surely a less precious space can be found, rather than alienating parkland, perhaps by using private rather than public space,” the pair wrote.
More than 3,000 hours of recreation for children from both public and private schools, as well as adult sports leagues, would be canceled because of the plan.
Thankfully, Manhattan Soccer Club met the announcement with a petition (sign here) that, in a few short days, has garnered over 2,000 signatures (let’s make it 20,000).
At Restore Childhood, preserving and supporting children’s team sports & athletics is a top priority, so Stephanie has created a short video promoting the petition and asking for support.
I hope everyone shares this petition far and wide. Our children continue to pay the price for terrible planning by our city's feckless leaders. Please let them know that we will not stand for it. This is not vacant space- it is space needed by city kids.
Please consider signing & sharing (even if you are not in NYC)!
Please SIGN here & SHARE the petition!
Thanks for your continued support and have a wonderful week ahead!
Cheers,
