Blacks & Latinos support lifting the state-imposed charter school cap in the nation's largest school district
The NYC teachers' union opposes it while pushing for impossibly smaller class sizes
My latest for the NY Post, co-written with my friend, PLACE NYC’s Jean Hahn looks at how the implementation of NYC’s Class Size Reduction Law, rammed through by union-backed State Senator John Liu, is going to hurt the kids it claims to help— by removing precious seats in good, neighborhood schools, and sending families scrambling to outer boroughs to find seats for their kids.
NYC’s public schools are broken and things are about to get even worse.
The union-backed charter cap prevents new charters from opening- but charters could help alleviate the overcrowding in our public schools. Parents, overwhelmingly want more school choice, but there is little meaningful parent engagement.
