As summer winds down, and we approach the 2023-24 academic year, we are hopeful that this year will more closely resemble school as we knew it prior to the lockdowns. While we are cautiously optimistic, we are ever-vigilant about the role we, as parents, caregivers and guardians must now take in our children’s lives.

We are still trying to understand how, as the Covid-era seems to have passed, we have entered a new, seemingly more perilous time in children’s lives.  Were we simply unaware of the ideologies lurking behind closed schoolhouse doors or did they only materialize once those doors opened?  

Our concerns are simultaneously ubiquitous and, yet, difficult to fully grasp. They are often disguised or hidden in what were previously innocent, routine and relatively uncontroversial places including school textbooks and health education class.

Yet other alterations in schooling are more overt, such as the now permanent option for schools to switch to remote learning with little to no oversight, or allowing minors to make medical decisions without parents’ knowledge or consent.

How can parents keep up with these changes and come to terms with the fact that school-as-we-know it is not what most kids are attending these days? Is there a toolbox for parents who need this information but are limited on time?

Enter our friends Karol Markowicz and Bethany Mandel, who, last spring, published their excellent book STOLEN YOUTH: HOW RADICALS ARE ERASING INNOCENCE & INDOCTRINATING A GENERATION. The authors have been writing and speaking out about woke ideology in children’s spheres for years, building a powerful media presence. They are now offering critical insights into changes in education, entertainment, and all aspects of modern childhood that we would be wise to consider.

So, is the sky falling? We’re not so sure.

But if the Covid-era taught us anything, it’s that parents were caught off-guard and unprepared when we had to galvanize and fight for our children. One thing is for certain- we must not make the same mistake again, and remain informed, engaged and proactive.  

To that end, Restore Childhood is launching a new, monthly book club. Our inaugural selection is STOLEN YOUTH, and we urge you to purchase a copy of this important book. This review of the book should be helpful if you would like more information.

4. A few days before the Q&A we will share an invite to participate in a live, moderated conversation with author Bethany Mandel.
