Don't Trust The Times
When it comes to news, we must learn to triangulate (take Maud, for instance)
In response to today’s NY Times hit piece on Maud Maron, I posted an X thread that I wanted to share here. Here’s what I said:
In 2022 The New York Times, interviewed me for a story about parents who changed their politics due to Covid-19 school closures & related mandates.
I told the reporter I was a NYC Democrat who voted for Biden.
The article linked me to a "Stop the Steal" group.
I demanded & received a correction (they also slurred me as an "anti-vaxxer" because I opposed Covid vaccine mandates for kids).
Today's @nytimes features a story about my good friend @MaudMaron- we've fought alongside each other for 4 years now- in '20 to reopen schools, '21 to end child Covid mask/vax mandates & for the last 2 years to restore American values to our schools.
A Culture-War Battle Convulses a School Panel in Liberal Manhattan Maud Maron, a right-wing activist, introduced a resolution about transgender students’ participation in sports. The fallout has derailed a parent council in one of Manhattan’s largest school districts…https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/02/nyregion/maud-maron-transgender-nyc-school-council.html
For her commonsense approach to parenting, education & crime policies, @nytimes calls @MaudMaron a "right wing activist," a term used to silence, marginalize & utterly delegitimize. The Times knows their remaining readers hang on their every word- this is powerful.
How dare the common sense views of a public school mom of 4, a former public defender, an unpaid school board member who has stood up for girls' and women's rights be considered or even heard?
Now, personally, I think that all news is good news & even this silly NY Times hit piece will not accomplish its goals of making Maud sound extreme- because most normal people will agree with her views (it is neither safe not conducive to their mental health for our daughters to compete against biological boys, regardless of how those boys identify themselves).
And as for those CEC2 meetings that the article casually mentions, casting blame on Maud Maron for attempting to bring order to the room & get the adults to act like... adults (how dare she!), I attended the June 12 meeting, which was unlike any other community meeting I had ever been to.
Far left trans/Hamas activists filled the room & would shout down, stomp, snap down anyone who tried to offer a divergent view, even a brave high schooler who tried to share her perspective on boys in girls' sports. For hours, they menaced board members & audience who did not share their views. These were activists, not actual parents, not actual kids.
But @nytimes doesn't mention how coopted these de facto NYC school board meetings have become by activists (not real parents, not real students) & instead disparages CEC member Charles Love for allowing himself to be dragged into a "screaming match" with one of the council's "left-leaning members." Honestly, if you don't shout, there is not even a chance to be heard at these "meetings," so I can't blame him.
I don't expect much from @nytimes - I unsubscribed after October 7th, when they made clear they preferred publishing straight-up Hamas talking points to investigative journalism. The Times is an ideological paper that masquerades as respectable journalism- judging by their plunging subscriptions, many are wise & have switched to
’s smart & nuanced (I certainly did).If you're curious about Maud, go ahead & read The Times piece. But make sure you follow it up with the real story, one she wrote for us at here back in August.
To judge for yourself, you will want to know Maud in her own words right here:
